A new freight train departed Qingdao, Shandong province, and is expected to arrive in Hanoi, Vietnam, in six days via a rail-and-road transport mode.

The cargo is headed to the manufacturing base of Sailun Group, a leading global tire manufacturer.

Operated by Shandong Hi-Speed Group, this is the first supply chain special train from the province to Vietnam. It is customized for Sailun Group to supply its overseas production base and support the tire giant's global expansion.

Upon arrival, the cargo will be transported by truck to Sailun's factory. This multimodal "door-to-door" service reduces transit time by about 50 percent compared to traditional sea freight, avoiding maritime congestion risks. It sets the bar for Shandong enterprises expanding into the Southeast Asian market.

The group has operated freight trains to Southeast Asia for years under the Belt and Road Initiative, viewing the region as a key logistics hub. It runs regular services to countries including Laos and Vietnam. In May 2025, it established a collection center in Vientiane, Laos, to coordinate with domestic hubs.

Looking ahead, the company plans to introduce more customized services and integrated warehousing and transport services to support the global expansion of Shandong-based enterprises.
